Cecilia Glencross was born in Stockholm, Sweden. She trained for three years in design, crafts and haute couture dressmaking. She created one-off garments that were sold in boutiques in the old part of Stockholm. She spent her summers on an island surrounded by the Baltic Sea and drew much of her inspiration from the natural colours, textures and shapes that she found there.
Cecilia used only natural fibres - silk and wool - and selected the raw wool at source, spinning, dying, and weaving by hand. She painted and embroidered on silk and used appliqué and beads. Each garment was exclusive and unique, and was approached like a work of art. She often cut material on the bias to produce the flowing and moving lines that are now so characteristic of her style as an artist.
"I was touched and moved by your words and paintings. The simplicity, directness and honesty of the words. The sensitivity and intensity of feelings in the mingles of colours and swirls."
"What a talent you are with your artwork! Your artwork is so beautiful and calming. Do you sell any of your work? I love the colours - and what an amazing story!"
"Your paintings are really lovely. So colourful and so peaceful."
"I specially liked Darkness to Light and Healing the Wounds. I would have picked them out in any gallery as really special. That is the important aspect of your creative outlets, either in paintings or in your jewellery. they have had [and continue to have] a healing quality, but more importantly have merit in their own right as artistic creations, which is truly marvellous."
"I found it moving and quite unlike anything I have ever seen in terms of it's artistic excellence. The concept of expressing oneself through painting [to me] quite novel, and yet it is obviously the simplest and most creative."
